What to Avoid Before Skydiving

Welcome, thrill-seekers and adrenaline junkies! Today, we’re going to talk about getting high: approximately 13,500 feet high. And definitely not high in any other way. If you’re planning your first jump, you’ve come to the right place. But before you leap into the big blue Carolina sky, there are some essential dos and don’ts to consider.

Can You Drink Before Skydiving (Or The Night Before)?

So, you’re all set to take that big leap, but the question lingers: can you drink before skydiving? The answer is a resounding NOPE.

Skydiving is a sport that requires all of your faculties and participation. Just like you wouldn’t drink alcohol before a track meet or a driving test, consuming alcohol before skydiving is a strict no-go. While that pre-jump drink might seem tempting to calm your nerves, trust us on this one: it will only lead to disappointment (and big-time discomfort). Any detection of alcohol will result in your jump being canceled — and who wants that?! Nobody; that’s who.

If you think that drinking heavily the night before and then waking up for your jump will solve the problem, think again! In fact, there is no more awful thing on this beautiful planet than skydiving with a hangover. It would be just as detrimental to your skydiving plans as downing a few drinks right before the jump (and probably ranks somewhere below the idea of driving two hours in August without air conditioning to visit a trampoline park with a hangover).

To ensure a smooth and thrilling experience, avoid alcohol like the plague the day before and before you jump on the day of your skydive. Drinking afterward? Fair game, if that’s your thing. You just won’t be able to jump again after a drink and — well — chances are you will want to jump again!

Other Things to Avoid Before Skydiving

Alcohol isn’t the only thing that can throw a wrench into your skydiving adventure. Don’t smoke weed before skydiving – it’s another major no-no. While some might believe it will help them chill out and drop some of the nervous energy, it doesn’t actually do a great job of either in the context of a first-time skydive.

Weed seriously impairs your coordination and reaction time, and because skydiving requires focus and quick responses, you can expect any substance that affects your cognitive abilities to pose a huge risk. If we have reason to believe you’ve been smoking or have any drugs on board, we can’t, in good conscience, let you jump.

Tips on How to Feel Good Before Skydiving

Now that we’ve answered the question, “what should you avoid before skydiving,” let’s focus on how to make your skydiving experience as fantastic as possible … without any chemical additives.

First and foremost, hydrate, hydrate, hydrate! Proper hydration is essential for optimal bodily function, especially when you’re about to undertake an exhilarating skydive. Drink plenty of water before your jump to keep your energy levels up and your mind sharp.

Food is equally important – but do your tummy a favor and skip the heavy, greasy stuff. Opt instead for a nutritious meal of moderate size before your adventure. Your body will thank you, and your brain will have the fuel it needs to stay present and switched on for the duration of your incredible experience.

Good Sleep is the Best Substance of All

To make sure you’re at your best, both physically and mentally, don’t underestimate the power of a good night’s sleep. It’s nothing short of magic. Prioritize your beauty sleep the night before the jump, and you’ll be in the best position possible to embrace the adventure: the clear-headed position.

Research shows that well-rested individuals retain information better, which is crucial for absorbing the tandem skydiving training you’ll complete before your jump. When you’re alert and focused, you’ll be like a sponge for the info, allowing you to take on the challenge like a champ and savor every jaw-dropping moment during your skydiving experience.

Ready to Get Higher?

We’re ready to take you there! Just remember: as you gear up for your thrilling skydiving adventure, steer well clear of alcohol and any substances that can compromise your safety and enjoyment, and that of those around you.
